A Simple Plan for Disciple-Making:

You don’t have to have a complicated plan to do disciple-making well.  Sometimes some intentional conversation is all you’ll need.  Consider some good accountability questions, or a Bible study, some prayer, and enjoy some real-life conversation.  If you build this as a habit, you’ll have a lifelong, encouraging relationship!  If you find after a few months that your conversation really isn’t producing much transforming change, you might want to consider a more structured approach.

Be sure to include:
  • Accountability
  • Bible Study
  • Prayer
  • Real-life conversation

As you get started, it's important to answer a few questions to establish what is expected of your time together.  How often will you meet?  How long will your meetings be?  What will you study?  What is the goal of your time together?  Will you have an end-date to your commitment (i.e. one year)?

You might read the Bible together and spend some time in prayer.  If you would like to read a book on a relevant topic together, you might want to check out our Resource Page for some ideas.

The goal of disciple-making is not to get them to memorize the Bible, be a good person, or to do anything out of obligation to God.  Your goal is to help them to enjoy God's presence and to see Him at work in their lives.

Accountability
Here are some frequently asked accountability questions to consider.  Ask about four good questions every week to keep your faith moving forward:

  1.  What have you been reading in the Bible?
  2. How can I be praying for you this week?
  3. How is your thought life?
  4. What temptations did you face since we last met?
  5. Is there anything that I should know to help you right now?
  6. How much time did you spend with God this week?
  7. What are you learning about God? And yourself?
  8. What steps of faith are you taking in obedience to Christ?
  9. Are there areas of your life that are hindering spiritual growth?
  10. Where are you growing in the fruit of the Spirit?
  11. Have you been faithful in your church attendance and participation?
  12. How are you making your family a priority in your life?
  13. Are you enjoying time with God in prayer?
  14. Is there anything you need to surrender to God?
  15. Have your words and attitude reflected Christ this week?
  16. Have you viewed any sexually explicit material this week?
  17. What Bible verses are you memorizing?
  18. Are you honoring God with how you handle your finances?
  19. Are you withholding forgiveness from someone?
  20. How are you showing love and care for your family?
  21. Where are you giving your time, talents, and treasure to serve the Lord?
  22. Is there an area of your life in which you are fighting discouragement?
  23. Who's salvation are you praying for? With whom are you sharing your faith?
  24. What blessings are you grateful for today?
  25. Have you been honest in your answers?
