Operation Christmas Child

Bringing Christmas cheer and God's Word to children around the world

Operation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, an international relief organization. Their mission is to provide local partners around the world with shoeboxes filled with small toys, hygiene items, and school supplies as a means of reaching out to children in their own communities with the Good News of Jesus Christ. They ship these simple gifts outside the United States to children affected by war, poverty, natural disaster, famine, and disease; and to children living on Native American reservations in the U.S. Find out more about OCC here.

Q&A

Why pack a shoebox?

Shoebox gifts are a way to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to needy children around the world, and together with the local church worldwide, to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. Your family can serve a child and share the gospel with a child on the other side of the world through this gift!

Does this cost anything?

While packing a gift can look like a pricey thing to do, many of these items can be found in dollar stores! Along with putting together a box, we encourage a suggested $9 donation (given directly to Tina). This donation is critical for OCC to collect, process, and ship shoebox gifts to more than 100 countries. This donation is not required to pack a gift, but if you are able to give more, that would help cover the costs of those who cannot give a donation along with their box.

I'm in! Where do I find a box?

Thank you for joining us on this adventure! There is a table at church with boxes available or you can use a shoebox-sized box from home.

When/where should I turn my box in?

You can bring your finished box and donations to the church anytime before November 15th. There is a collection area near the children's ministry. At that point, we will bring them to a local church drop-off location.

How do I pack a shoebox?

After you have a box, decide whether your box will be for a boy or girl, and an age category: 2-4, 5-9, or 10-14 and attach a label. Next, FILL the box with gifts such as toys, hygiene items, and school supplies that child would enjoy! Remember to pray for the child who will receive your gift. You can also include a personal note and photo. Place a couple of rubber bands around the box so that it stays closed. Hand all money donations directly to Tina or the office in the form of cash so that Faith Community can send in a donation with all combined costs.

What items should go in my shoebox?

These are a few of the recommended items for gift packing, but you can be creative with what you pack! Try to include items from various categories. If you have a question whether an item is appropriate or not, you can look on OCC’s website here.
